This 30-credit program is designed for those passionate about language, linguistics, literature, or culture who may pursue doctoral studies in these fields. Students must exhibit advanced French proficiency in both speaking and writing throughout their studies. The curriculum requires 24 credits of coursework in literature, language, linguistics, and culture, including at least 12 credits at the 500-level. Students may incorporate relevant courses from other departments to complement their focus area. Additionally, six thesis credit hours are mandatory. After completing their thesis, candidates will defend it before a graduate faculty committee during an oral examination that also covers coursework content. French MA Program Learning Outcomes: Achieve advanced-level oral communication skills in French. Attain advanced written French language competence. Develop critical analysis skills for French texts and media to demonstrate understanding of historical and contemporary cultural contexts. Practice ethical research methods by adhering to professional standards in research design, argument development, and citation while engaging with diverse cultural viewpoints.
