The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design offers opportunities for graduate study, research, and creative work in the areas of apparel and textile design, merchandising, costume and textile history, quilt studies, and textile science. An interdepartmental Ph.D. degree in human sciences with a specialization in textiles, merchandising and fashion design is available to those interested in doctoral-level study. Some coursework is available online. Department resources include apparel design studios, screen-printing, weaving and digital textile printing studios, historic textile and costume collections with over 5,000 pieces maintained in a state-of-the-art climate controlled environment, well-equipped computer aided design, and textile testing and processing laboratories. Internship opportunities in industry, government, museum and gallery settings, as well as domestic and international study programs are available.
