The Department of Ancient Mediterranean Studies provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. We welcome applications from dedicated students with strong academic backgrounds who have developed an understanding of classical studies' diverse nature and wish to establish their own niche within the field. While proficiency in Latin and Greek is preferred, Missouri's MA program particularly supports students who began studying these languages later and require accelerated learning opportunities.
The program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours. At least 12 of these hours must be in advanced courses (8000/9000 level or higher) covering classical archaeology, Greek, Latin, classics, or related disciplines. All first-year graduate students must complete AMS 7000. Those pursuing a minor can either take 10-12 hours in another department or fulfill the ancient studies minor requirements.
