Understanding history provides valuable insights for addressing current and future challenges. By earning a master's in history from UAB, you'll develop versatile skills applicable to diverse fields including business, healthcare, legal professions, and cultural preservation.
Our program emphasizes early research collaboration with faculty, offering exposure to numerous historical periods—from ancient civilizations to modern Europe—and regional studies covering the U.S., Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. You'll select between two academic tracks: Plan I (thesis track) involves creating original research through a thesis project, with 36 credit hours comprising core classes, electives, and specialized seminars in both U.S. and international history—ideal for future doctoral candidates. Plan II (non-thesis track) replaces the thesis with additional coursework, making it preferable for aspiring educators.
