The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is an initial clinical degree that equips students to begin practicing physical therapy with expertise in musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and integumentary systems.
This professional program demands full-time commitment across three academic years plus three summer terms. The coursework blends foundational and clinical sciences through conventional lectures, laboratory work, problem-based learning, and hands-on clinical training. Graduates must successfully complete the National Physical Therapy Examination to obtain their professional license.
Applicants to MU's Physical Therapy program enroll directly into the DPT degree track. Admission requires either a completed bachelor's degree (standard entry) or a minimum of 90 semester credits (early admission pathway).
The University of Missouri's Physical Therapy Department focuses exclusively on entry-level education. We don't provide advanced post-professional degrees. Licensed physical therapists seeking further education should explore options at other institutions.
