Leveraging JWU's strengths in healthcare, wellness, and nutrition, this full-time, eight-semester program equips graduates to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) and enter practice as licensed physical therapists. Throughout the curriculum, students master the skills to conduct comprehensive PT evaluations, make accurate diagnoses, formulate prognoses, and create effective treatment plans. The DPT program features 90 hours of Integrated Clinical Experiences (ICE), community service components, and a culminating research project, providing students with adaptable skills applicable across diverse PT settings such as outpatient clinics, inpatient rehab facilities, and home healthcare. As Rhode Island's second DPT program and the sole offering in northern RI, JWU's curriculum capitalizes on the state's robust healthcare and education sectors. The program operates from the Bowen Center for Science and Innovation, a collaborative learning environment where DPT students work alongside peers from various COHW disciplines like occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, nutrition sciences, exercise science, and public health. According to BLS projections, physical therapy employment is expected to expand 15% by 2032 (approximately 13,900 annual job openings), with median annual earnings reaching $97,720 as of May 2022.
