Physical therapists are certified medical experts who assess and guide treatment for patients across all age groups to enhance their mobility and daily functioning. They assist individuals in achieving peak wellness and physical condition while working to avoid or slow the development of physical challenges, movement restrictions, and disabilities caused by illnesses, disorders, and other health issues.
Those with Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees work in diverse environments including: medical clinics, hospitals, long-term care centers, private residences, educational institutions, urgent care facilities, research labs, athletic complexes, and corporate sites. Many continue their education through advanced training programs, completing specialized clinical residencies and earning certifications in focused areas such as: musculoskeletal care, neurological rehabilitation, children's health, sports medicine, senior care, heart and lung conditions, diagnostic testing, pelvic floor therapy, cancer recovery, and wound treatment.
