The English major provides comprehensive training in creativity, interpretation, and analysis across three primary disciplines. Students can pursue this major either on campus or through fully online coursework.
Literature, Culture, and Media
This concentration explores English literature from its medieval roots to its contemporary global expressions, while equipping students with skills to critically analyze texts, cultural artifacts, films, and digital media. Specializations include African Diaspora studies, gender and sexuality, writing composition, postcolonial and global literatures, and critical theory.
Creative Writing
In this track, students hone their craft in fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction under the mentorship of established authors. The program focuses on developing genre-specific techniques and engaging in artistic dialogues within the literary world.
Language and Linguistics
This area offers fresh insights into the often-overlooked complexity of language. Coursework examines English through its modern structure, historical evolution, and the universal linguistic principles that shape all languages, including English.
