Urban and regional planners shape the growth of communities, cities, and larger geographic areas. The Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program unites specialists from diverse fields including planning, sociology, engineering, law, architecture, social work, public health, landscape architecture, and urban design to address urban expansion, improve housing, safeguard ecosystems, and foster community and economic growth. This Planning Accreditation Board-certified program equips students with the technical and analytical abilities required for strategic planning and execution across various scales. For almost a decade, our MURP graduates have consistently achieved the top success rate on the American Institute of Certified Planners certification exam.
A four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited US university or foreign equivalent at time of enrollment.

While no specific experience or academic pathway is required, students with a strong liberal education background and sound quantitative and analytical skills will be best prepared for academic success at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Previous coursework in mathematics, statistics, and economics is recommended. Past applicants needing to strengthen this part of their skill set have found courses in introductory microeconomics, college algebra, and introductory statistics to be helpful preparation.
English Language Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL iBT – 100; IELTS Academic – 7.0; MELAB – 80; Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic) – 59; Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) C1 Advanced – 180.
