Recognized by the Planning Accreditation Board, this two-year Master in Urban Planning (MUP) program welcomes students holding a bachelor's degree to explore pressing urban challenges. Leveraging departmental, school-wide, and university resources, GSD planning students develop skills to interpret, assess, and shape the diverse factors—including social, economic, cultural, legal, political, environmental, and design considerations—that influence urban spaces. The curriculum focuses on four central themes: navigating change in intricate settings, addressing multi-scalar systems, approaching current and future challenges with ethical responsibility, and emphasizing practical implementation in planning work. With approximately 80 students enrolled each year and a faculty team blending academic expertise with professional experience, the program fosters a close-knit learning community where students gain leadership competencies. Alumni pursue careers across various sectors, including municipal planning offices, government agencies, private firms, non-profits, development corporations, and other institutions both domestically and abroad.
