This program is designed for those passionate about influencing the appearance and functionality of our living spaces. Urban design encompasses intricate connections among local governments, developers, property owners, planners, architects, builders, public officials, and community members. Students develop skills to navigate this process successfully, creating lively and thriving environments. At the U, students emerge as influential urban planners and designers while helping shape a progressive and energetic Utah. The accredited Master of City and Metropolitan Planning (MCMP) equips graduates to excel in directing the expansion of communities, urban areas, and regions. Foundational coursework focuses on environmental sustainability, intelligent development, and equitable solutions through clear communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. The degree combines essential competencies with focused concentrations, readying students for leadership positions in government agencies across all levels, private consulting practices, and non-profit groups. Cross-disciplinary studies beyond traditional planning are promoted. The program also includes hands-on community planning workshops and a culminating professional project.
