Exercise Physiology explores how physical activity affects human body systems and health, investigating both short-term and long-term impacts. This field applies core principles of energy use and biomechanics to exercise, sports, physical effort, and wellness initiatives. The curriculum covers how movement and structured exercise contribute to overall wellbeing while helping prevent and manage conditions like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and bone disorders. At the graduate level, learners develop skills to address physiological challenges related to muscle function and adaptation. Hands-on training occurs in specialized facilities including the Integrative Human Physiology Lab and Human Performance Teaching Lab under Professor Donald Dengel's guidance, the Physiological Hygiene and Exercise Science Lab led by Professor Li Li Ji, and Dr. Sarah Greising's Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Lab. This specialization maintains robust collaborations with various university departments spanning healthcare professions, public health sciences, biological sciences, and behavioral sciences.
