Our research-focused M.S. program connects students with faculty mentors to investigate diverse topics examining how acute and chronic exercise affects metabolic and cardiovascular health in sedentary, elderly, or medically compromised populations. This pathway is ideal for students aiming to continue toward a Ph.D. in exercise physiology. Prospective M.S. candidates should reach out to faculty members whose research aligns with their interests. The curriculum encompasses cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, neuromuscular, and endocrine physiology as they relate to both short-term and long-term exercise effects. The thesis-based M.S. offers students an opportunity to conduct novel research in exercise physiology, requiring independent work that demonstrates original findings and analytical rigor. Alternatively, the report option involves completing a technical project with a comprehensive literature review presented in a professional written format.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
Application deadline: December 01 for fall and October 1 for spring
