Obtain certification to teach in early childhood (birth through 3rd grade) classrooms across Minnesota. Develop a solid understanding of child development principles, research, and age-appropriate teaching methods for practical classroom application. Upon meeting all program requirements, you'll receive your M.Ed. degree and qualify for Minnesota teaching certification in early childhood education (Birth-3rd grade). This program is designed for those seeking their initial Minnesota teaching credential. Current holders of Minnesota elementary education licenses can explore our supplemental licensure program to add early childhood education certification.
Program length in credits: 32 to 40
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 2.80.
A bachelor's degree must be completed at the time of matriculation.

Applicants who have completed the Early Childhood: Foundations BS degree through the University of Minnesota apply for fall admission; Applicants who have not completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota can apply for spring, summer, or fall admission.
