Composition students benefit from personalized instruction while also engaging in collaborative seminars, with ample chances to showcase new music both within the School of Music and across the Twin Cities area. The Contemporary Music Workshop fosters continuous collaboration between composers and performers. Our distinguished faculty, recognized nationally and internationally across diverse mediums, are dedicated to cultivating each student's unique artistic vision and expertise. Prospective applicants should demonstrate foundational professional training, including at least one year of orchestration studies, a semester of counterpoint, and three years of theoretical and analytical coursework (covering both tonal and post-tonal concepts).
Program duration in credits: 69 to 90
