Cognitive science focuses on unifying modern approaches to understanding the mind and brain, examining the systems and processes involved in gaining and applying knowledge. The program's unity stems from its central emphasis on cognition. This graduate program bridges cellular, behavioral, and psychological levels of analysis to study cognition as an integrated whole. It combines the varied content, techniques, and viewpoints of multiple fields (including anthropology, biology, AI, linguistics, neuroscience, philosophy, and psychology) that contribute to our comprehension of cognition. The PhD curriculum prepares cognitive scientists to perform research that merges methods and knowledge from diverse approaches. To maintain interdisciplinary rigor, every student works with two faculty advisors from different cognitive science disciplines within the graduate program.
