The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies offers comprehensive Arabic literary and cultural studies, encompassing both classical and modern works from Arabic-speaking regions and diaspora communities. Our faculty specialize in diverse areas, from ancient pre-Islamic poetry to contemporary Arabic literature, cinema, and cultural expressions. Current scholarly work particularly examines the literary traditions of the Arabian Peninsula and Palestinian territories. The program highlights how historical and political developments have shaped the Arab world's unique cultural identities, literary works, and perspectives, while also exploring their connections to global postcolonial and transnational movements.
