The Physical Therapy Program, part of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, provides a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. This healthcare field focuses on assessing and treating movement disorders including muscle weakness, coordination issues, joint rigidity, and pain that may impact daily activities, mobility, and work capabilities. Students learn to enhance patient well-being and life quality by optimizing movement recovery after illness or trauma, or preventing mobility decline. This intensive graduate program spans three continuous years of full-time study. The initial seven terms concentrate on academic instruction and research, while the concluding two terms involve hands-on clinical training.
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.00.
The University of Minnesota Division of Physical Therapy has no required or preferred undergraduate major. Any baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution is accepted.
