The 30-month curriculum encompasses seminars, lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and comprehensive clinical mentorship covering physical and psychological development, primary and young permanent tooth therapy, restorative dentistry for young patients, behavioral guidance techniques (both pharmacological and non-pharmacological), trauma management, and treatment of specific Class I and Class II malocclusions. Substantial portions of the program focus on hospital-based training, including procedures under general anesthesia and specialized care for children with unique healthcare requirements, conducted at both Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor and Flint facilities. During the initial year, residents complete coursework, patient treatment, and research project development in Ann Arbor. The subsequent year emphasizes advanced clinical training at Flint's Mott Children's Health Center and Hurley Medical Center. Mott Children's Health Center operates as a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary clinic offering free services (including pediatric dentistry) to ensure top-tier care regardless of family income. The concluding half-year returns residents to Ann Arbor for research completion, undergraduate dental student instruction, and specialized clinical work. Research mentorship continues throughout the entire program duration.
