The M.A. program caters to University of Michigan students enrolled in professional or academic programs outside philosophy who would benefit from a graduate-level philosophy credential. Admissions to the M.A. program are typically limited to these students, with exceptions made only at the discretion of the admissions committee. Those wishing to transition from the M.A. to Ph.D. program must complete the standard application process and compete with all other applicants, receiving no preferential treatment. Accepted Ph.D. students may petition to have their M.A. coursework count toward doctoral requirements, though this isn't guaranteed.
