The M.A. program caters to University of Michigan students enrolled in professional programs or academic degrees outside philosophy who would benefit from graduate-level philosophy credentials. Admission is typically restricted to these students, with exceptions granted only at the discretion of the admissions committee after reviewing applications. Those wishing to transition from the M.A. to Ph.D. program must apply through the standard competitive process, receiving no preferential treatment. Accepted Ph.D. candidates may petition to have their M.A. coursework count toward doctoral requirements, though this isn't guaranteed.
