The Department provides graduate-level courses and features a certificate program that enables students to specialize in either African studies or African diaspora studies. At the undergraduate level, the curriculum emphasizes the examination of Africa and its diaspora from a global perspective. Concentrating on African Studies, African American Studies, and Afro-Caribbean Studies, DAAS faculty generate cutting-edge research and teaching about the histories, cultures, and creative expressions of African communities and their diasporas. The Department's African study abroad initiatives have consistently served as crucial platforms, offering undergraduate and graduate students distinctive opportunities for cross-cultural engagement and hands-on learning experiences.
Applicants complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
