Those enrolled in a Sport Management PhD program cultivate academic and investigative expertise, ultimately producing an innovative dissertation that advances understanding in the sports industry. This curriculum caters to aspiring scholars, educators, investigators, and practitioners specializing in economics, marketing, philanthropy, and urban development related to sports enterprises. From the outset, each doctoral candidate collaborates extensively with an assigned faculty mentor. With their advisor's supervision, students undertake appropriate academic courses, participate in research activities (including laboratory rotations and independent studies), formulate research concepts, and finalize a dissertation before completing their degree. A key objective of doctoral education is developing autonomous scholarly capability, encompassing both research mastery and knowledge sharing. Students gain teaching experience through roles as Graduate Student Research Assistants (GSRAs) or Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs). Throughout the program, doctoral candidates and their advisors establish three committees - Guidance, Qualifying Examination, and Dissertation - to offer counsel and assess advancement at each academic milestone.
