The Personality and Social Contexts (P and SC) specialization explores individuals while emphasizing how social environments influence personal growth and happiness. This dual emphasis on both the individual and their surroundings has deep roots in psychology, consistently highlighting that both perspectives are essential for addressing the field's key inquiries. The P&SC specialization embraces this approach by investigating how people interact with their social settings through various methods. Faculty and students in P&SC analyze individuals from diverse angles, including biological factors, personality characteristics, racial identity, gender, sexual orientation, and group affiliations. Similarly, research within this area examines numerous social environments, from personal bonds and family units to educational institutions, workplaces, neighborhoods, historical backgrounds, economic systems, and societal norms. By considering both detailed and broad perspectives, this approach addresses topics like societal disparities, discrimination, and adaptability.
