The PhD program in Oral Health Sciences is administered through the Rackham Graduate School and based at the School of Dentistry. This program aims to develop exceptional students into research leaders in oral health academia. Key research focuses encompass: craniofacial developmental biology, mineralized tissues and musculoskeletal conditions, oral/pharyngeal oncology, inequalities in oral healthcare, infectious and immune-related oral diseases, oral sensory mechanisms and neural pathways, along with regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Michigan's School of Dentistry offers a combined DDS/PhD curriculum that integrates clinical practice with scientific investigation through coursework and hands-on training. Candidates gain simultaneous admission to both the dental degree program and the Oral Health Sciences doctoral track. Note that this dual-degree program meets Michigan's dental licensure requirements; its compliance with other states' licensing standards remains undetermined.
