The University of Michigan's secondary teacher education program is a three-semester curriculum designed to equip students for teaching grades 6 through 12. Beginning in your junior year, you can simultaneously pursue an undergraduate degree and earn Michigan state teaching certification. As a future secondary educator (referred to as a teaching intern), you'll have the chance to instruct in subjects you're passionate about. Gaining hands-on experience in professional classroom environments forms a crucial component of your training. During the initial two terms, you'll dedicate 68 weekly hours to classroom immersion as an intern. This involves observing live classroom dynamics, gathering insights on student progress and instructional methods, while actively participating through tutoring, collaborative teaching, and lesson planning alongside mentor teachers and university colleagues.
