The Biology Program provides eight distinct majors, spanning specializations from cellular and molecular biology to ecology and evolutionary studies. If you're starting your journey at U-M, you don't need to choose a specific major immediately. Exploring multiple biology courses can help you discover which area of biological sciences captivates you most. For those pursuing a degree in biological sciences, we highly recommend starting prerequisite courses upon enrollment and consulting a major advisor early (such as late in your first year or early in your second year) to develop an academic roadmap. Neuroscience explores the nervous system's structure and function. Researchers in this field investigate cellular development, behavioral mechanisms, and the biological foundations of mental health conditions. The program's faculty includes molecular neuroscientists from the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB) alongside behavioral and cognitive neuroscience experts from the Psychology Department.
