The Asian Studies program enables students to explore both ancient and contemporary Asian civilizations. Course requirements vary based on each student's selected specialization: Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, South Asian Studies, or Southeast Asian Studies. Additionally, students may select a complementary focus area, with popular choices being History/Civilization, Literature, Religion, Linguistics, Cultural Studies, and Film. The Department provides education in languages, literature, linguistics, and cultural studies covering China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. This major equips students with comprehensive knowledge of Asian languages and cultural traditions. With guidance from exceptional language faculty, students can achieve advanced competency in key Asian languages. Cultural courses, led by globally recognized experts, provide essential intercultural communication skills that are becoming increasingly valuable in today's world.
