The Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) major offers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of Latin America and the Caribbean. Through upper-level coursework in languages, social sciences, and humanities, students build a strong foundational understanding of the region. Both the major and minor programs provide wide-ranging, cross-disciplinary perspectives while allowing students to specialize in specific areas of interest. Honors students in LACS engage in focused research under faculty mentorship, culminating in a thesis project. The program supports students with study abroad opportunities, internship guidance, and research funding, including access to prestigious U.S. Department of Education FLAS fellowships for Portuguese or Quechua language studies at the University of Michigan.
