Beyond the core learning objectives shared across all majors, the three language programs challenge students to: develop advanced proficiency in ancient languages and a nuanced grasp of linguistic meaning construction, gain profound knowledge of seminal literary works and genres through meticulous examination and interpretation of original texts, recognize classical languages as the foundation for specialized vocabularies in medicine, law, and scientific fields, appreciate classical literature's enduring impact on cultural and artistic expression throughout history, and enhance writing clarity and persuasiveness by applying classical rhetorical techniques. The department offers complimentary walk-in tutoring for all students enrolled in introductory Latin and Greek courses.
