The BGSU classical civilization program offers an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the rich cultures of ancient Greece and Rome.
Contemporary concepts across various fields—including government, sports, creative expression, historical studies, legal systems, written works, deep thinking, persuasive speech, and social structures—trace their roots to these ancient civilizations.
Engaging with Classical Civilization also enhances your analytical reading abilities and written expression while strengthening your overall communication capabilities.
Just like modern people, Greek and Roman societies grappled with life's essential questions about existence, relationships, and mortality. This academic path exposes students to key aspects of Greco-Roman civilization through subjects like archaeological studies, artistic works, life accounts, historical events, philosophical thought, and linguistic studies. While the classical civilization curriculum encourages proficiency in Latin or ancient Greek, these language requirements remain optional.
