Our Ph.D. program emphasizes diversity, equity, and interdisciplinary approaches, enabling students to conduct research across various domains. These include educational interventions for students with disabilities, technology integration, bilingual/multilingual education, literacy development, educator training, family involvement, community-based learning, and STEM education. Faculty members demonstrate their dedication to enhancing educational outcomes and equity through scholarly work, professional training initiatives, and community partnerships.
Doctoral candidates in TAL complete core courses such as Learning Science Fundamentals, Research Methods, Teacher Education Studies, and Multicultural Education Perspectives. Students also select 15 credits of research methodology courses, choosing from quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches to study design and data interpretation.
Those holding a Master's degree in education or related disciplines may transfer up to 30 graduate credits toward the 60-credit requirement. Additionally, 12 dissertation credits are mandatory. Designed as an in-person, full-time program, most students earn their Ph.D. within four years, with accelerated three-year completion possible for some candidates.
