This specialized track within the APA-accredited Clinical Program caters to students passionate about child health psychology research. Participants share core coursework and practicum requirements with the Child/Family Clinical program (refer to Child/Family Clinical overview), but concentrate their research on pediatric and health-focused groups (such as children with diabetes, obesity, or studying youth health-risk behaviors). They also engage in more specialized pediatric-focused coursework and clinical experiences (including mandatory training in pediatric intervention strategies).
Research involvement with pediatric or health-focused groups begins in the first year for all students. Mirroring the broader UM Clinical Program's approach, the pediatric health track emphasizes research training through the mentor-apprentice model. Prospective students must clearly outline their research objectives during the application process and identify faculty members whose research aligns with their interests.
