The Marine Science/Geological Sciences program awards a Bachelor of Science degree (BSMAS), providing students with comprehensive training in Earth and ocean origins, along with current geophysical and geochemical transformations.
Students have opportunities to collaborate with faculty members and can receive academic credit by pursuing independent research projects guided by top experts in the discipline. UM's research emphasizes Florida reef carbonate studies, deep-sea core isotope analysis for climate history, tectonic activities (including volcanic and seismic events), and coastal system responses to sea-level changes.
This dual major in Marine Science/Geological Sciences equips graduates for advanced academic study, teaching and research positions, as well as technical roles in governmental agencies and private sector organizations focused on marine environments.
