The Department of Earth Sciences provides one certificate program and three graduate degree paths: Master of Science in Earth Sciences: This program involves writing a thesis and completing 32 credit hours. Students can specialize in Archaeology, Geography, Geology, or Interdisciplinary Studies. The Department of Earth Sciences was established in 2002 within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Memphis' main campus. Our team of 14 full-time faculty members covers the broad fields of Archaeology, Geography, and Geology. We foster personalized excellence through teamwork and cross-disciplinary methods in Earth Science education and research. Both professors and students enjoy the freedom to explore creative educational approaches and research topics that might not fit conventional academic structures. The department collaborates closely with several campus organizations including the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI), the Center for Applied Earth Science and Engineering Research (CAESER), Chucalissa Museum, and the Confucius Institute (CIUM). Our Archaeology faculty frequently work with other archaeology-focused programs throughout the University of Memphis.
