The Mathematics department at UMass Dartmouth provides a bachelor's program with a specialization in applied and computational mathematics. This computational track focuses on mathematical approaches essential for developing, evaluating, and executing numerical solutions to real-world challenges through computation-focused coursework. The curriculum balances theoretical knowledge and practical applications, equipping students for diverse career paths such as actuarial science, algorithm development, biostatistics, data science, financial analysis, software engineering, and statistical research. Mathematicians excel as analytical thinkers and problem solvers, contributing their expertise across academic, governmental, industrial, and technological sectors. The program also serves as excellent preparation for advanced studies in mathematics or related quantitative fields like economics, engineering, and scientific disciplines. Students can pursue either a BA or BS in mathematics, along with a BS in data science offered collaboratively by the mathematics department and the College of Engineering.
