The MFA program cultivates an innovative, cross-disciplinary learning environment for creators and researchers striving to investigate concepts that nurture the welfare of people, societies, and the Earth. Our instructors motivate students to immerse themselves in well-defined, particular situations, ensuring their creations maintain real-world significance. Within our nurturing yet rigorous community of artists and intellectuals, we collaboratively approach artistic practice as a fundamental human pursuit, examining and probing the essence of being an artist and existing in our contemporary era.

The program is ideally structured for students to leverage the scholarly distinction provided by UMass and the Five College partnership. Participants are urged to enroll in classes across other institutions, university divisions, and specialized programs that enrich their academic pursuits. This three-year MFA curriculum additionally delivers an extensive examination of art instruction in collegiate environments, foundational insights into progressive teaching methods, and substantial hands-on teaching practice.

We maintain a selective admissions process, welcoming about six new candidates annually. To alleviate tuition expenses, all admitted students receive teaching assistantships. Graduate scholars enjoy round-the-clock availability to their workspaces, tools, and campus resources.
