The Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art is a rigorous two-year, full-time residential program limited to 20 students. Centered on cross-disciplinary exploration, participants collaborate with dedicated faculty and peers, engage with visiting artists and scholars, study contemporary theory, showcase work in exhibitions and public initiatives, and may access global travel experiences. Comprehensive support spans diverse creative practices including studio work, performance, audio, community engagement, advocacy, and beyond. We nurture each artist's vision for how creative work can influence and exist within society.
Starting in the 2021-22 Academic year, the School of Art faculty will allocate substantial scholarship resources to address historical inequities in arts education and cultural representation. The program will award two exceptional candidates with $5,000 annual scholarships throughout their MFA studies. Preference will be given to promising applicants from groups traditionally marginalized in art education and academia, including (but not restricted to) Black/African American, Hispanic/Latina/o/x, Native American/Indigenous, Asian/Southeast Asian communities, and individuals with disabilities.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools.
English Language Proficiency: TOEFL: internet based - 79, or paper based - 550. A score of at least 6.5 is required on the IELTS.
