Our students aim to deepen their grasp of essential multiliteracies while working alongside peers, school leaders, parents, and students to create and exchange knowledge about these competencies. They train to become academic pioneers who craft learning spaces and programs that honor each learner's linguistic, intellectual, interpersonal, and cultural assets while ensuring fair opportunities for diverse literacy skills in our pluralistic, multilingual democratic community. Beyond classroom studies, you'll engage in school and neighborhood initiatives, plus a hands-on practicum (for those pursuing certification).
Essential multiliteracies—encompassing reading, writing, listening, speaking, representing, and observing—form intricate social interactions that enable communication, emotional expression, knowledge building, experience sharing, relationship formation, and societal engagement.
