The Department of French Literature, Thought and Culture provides a comprehensive selection of courses in French and Francophone studies at both graduate and undergraduate levels, covering language, literature, and cultural studies.
Featuring a faculty of renowned international scholars, the program delivers a robust and varied curriculum that prioritizes deep cultural and linguistic immersion. Most classes are conducted entirely in French.
Annually, the department hosts distinguished visiting professors who contribute significantly to the graduate program's excellence. Recent visiting scholars include prominent figures like Grard Genette, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Philippe Roger, Franoise Gaillard, Lucette Finas, Tahar Ben Jelloun, and Yves Hersant. Notably, Jacques Derrida maintained a tradition of visiting each autumn semester.
With about twenty-two graduate courses and seminars offered yearly, class sizes typically range from eight to fifteen students. This structure allows learners to benefit from a wide array of academic options while maintaining close faculty engagement.
