The English Department provides Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy programs specializing in literary studies, creative writing, and composition/rhetoric. Applicants holding a Bachelor's degree can pursue either the M.A. or enter directly into the Ph.D. program. Those with an M.A. or M.F.A. may apply for doctoral studies. Our graduate curriculum spans all these disciplines, with additional focus areas available in ethnic studies, Great Plains studies, human rights, 19th century studies, and women's/gender studies. The department also offers specialized credentials in Digital Humanities and Writing Instruction. Students benefit from numerous professional growth initiatives, such as building academic and teaching portfolios, joining literary discussion groups, attending author readings, and working alongside professors on scholarly, instructional, and creative projects.
