PhD candidates join the program to work closely with a chosen faculty advisor. Your academic curriculum should incorporate relevant courses (both in kinesiology and from other disciplines) that build the specialized knowledge needed to advance your research objectives. Master techniques from molecular biology, neuroscience, engineering, behavioral medicine, intervention strategies, and computational methods to address movement-related challenges through UMass Amherst's kinesiology doctoral program. Focused on cultivating research excellence, the program provides specialized training in four key domains: physiology, health and physical activity, biomechanics, and motor neuroscience. You'll implement our innovative multimodal approaches in your investigative work.

Qualification Requirements
Prior to their anticipated start date, applicants must complete a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned. All applicants must meet the general requirements of the Graduate School at UMass Amherst. Admission decisions are based on a review of all application materials. TOEFL scores of 100 or higher, or the equivalent score on other accepted tests, must be submitted by international applicants who do not qualify for a waiver.
