Acoustic neuroma, Ménière's disease, tinnitus, and various hearing, balance, and neurological conditions impact millions of Americans across all age groups, from infants to seniors. Audiologists play a crucial role in diagnosing and managing these disorders, frequently leading to significant enhancements in patients' lives.
The field of audiology combines scientific knowledge, advanced technology, and strong interpersonal abilities. While the study of hearing science and diagnostic methods may initially attract you, the most fulfilling aspect of being an audiologist lies in building meaningful connections with patients and their families while addressing their unique needs.
In our four-year program (eight semesters), the first three years involve on-campus coursework, required and elective classes, clinical rotations both on and off campus, and a culminating research project. The final year is dedicated to a full-time clinical externship at an off-site location.
The AuD program at UMass Amherst delivers the essential academic foundation and clinical experience needed to earn ASHA certification and launch a successful career in audiology.
