The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition opens doors to careers as dietitians, nutrition specialists, or health educators, while also serving as strong preparation for various health science professions including medical doctors, physician associates, dental practitioners, osteopathic physicians, nursing professionals, naturopathic doctors, and biomedical investigators. At UMass Amherst, nutrition scholars can choose among three specialized pathways tailored to distinct interests and professional aspirations: dietetics, nutrition and health sciences, or nutrition and society. All participants in these programs complete fundamental science coursework that establishes the groundwork for comprehending nutrition's impact on wellbeing. Additionally, they undertake essential nutrition classes covering: nutrient functions, synergies, and equilibrium along with other bioactive components, nutritional composition of foods, evolving dietary requirements throughout life stages, nutritional approaches to disease prevention and management, principles of food selection and preparation, conducting and conveying nutrition research, and the socioeconomic, cultural, and psychological influences on dietary decisions and food accessibility.
