The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies provides a three-year Master of Fine Arts program in Theatre Design, specializing in costume, scenic, lighting, and multimedia design. This rigorous program gives exceptional students advanced design training through both on-campus and external creative opportunities. Graduates are equipped for professional theatre careers or academic teaching positions. Additionally, the School provides MA and PhD programs in theatre history and performance studies, along with an MFA in Dance. As part of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the School benefits from cutting-edge facilities including spacious dance studios, diverse theatre venues, and global seminar spaces. Graduate students connect with renowned artists worldwide through The Clarice's Visiting Artist Series, participating in workshops, performances, and discussions.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
