The master's degree program in School Counseling equips students with professional entry-level skills to serve as counselors in K-12 educational environments. Graduates emerge as transformative leaders and advocates who deliver individual and group counseling services, create comprehensive developmental programs, and partner with educators, administrators, families, and community members to foster students' academic growth, social-emotional wellbeing, and career readiness. Accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation and endorsed by the Maryland State Department of Education, our program qualifies graduates for school counselor certification in Maryland and beyond. Housed within the nation's top-ranked counseling department (U.S. News and World Report), our program specifically focuses on developing school counseling professionals who will drive systemic change in urban K-12 school systems.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
