The AMSC graduate program in Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Scientific Computation provides interdisciplinary education for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, with specializations in applied mathematics, statistics, and computational science. Additionally, it grants a Scientific Computation Certificate to doctoral candidates from other university programs. Faculty members come from various departments across the institution, with potential applications spanning physical, chemical, biological, and social sciences, along with engineering disciplines. Key support comes from the Mathematics Department (MATH), CSCAMM (Center for Scientific Computation and Mathematical Modeling), and IPST (Institute for Physical Science and Technology). Students benefit from cutting-edge computational courses, advanced visualization tools, and high-performance networking resources.
The applicants are encouraged to take the GRE subject examination in either mathematics or another scientific topic. Applicants should have at least a "B" average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and should have completed an undergraduate program of study that includes a strong emphasis on rigorous mathematics, preferably through the level of advanced calculus and linear algebra.
