The English Area of Concentration program prepares students for 7-12 grade English (Language Arts) teaching certification. This comprehensive curriculum covers essential content areas including World, British, American, and Minority literature, along with communication studies, rhetoric, and linguistic principles. Students complete both English and professional education coursework, including hands-on field experiences in varied school environments, earning a dual-major Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English and English Education. The program fulfills Maryland's teaching certification standards and is generally recognized by other states' licensure requirements.
High school students and students with fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school should apply as freshman applicants.
