The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in music offers undergraduate students comprehensive training in musical performance combined with a liberal arts education. Students can specialize in jazz, piano, strings, voice, or winds and percussion, learning from distinguished faculty while participating in premier ensembles and a cutting-edge music theory and history program. The program balances musical studies (40% of coursework) with general education and electives (60%), giving students the freedom to pursue additional academic interests, minors, or even a dual major. This degree fosters profound dedication to musical performance while accommodating diverse intellectual pursuits.
The piano program provides extensive learning and performance experiences that push students to excel. Alongside regular studio classes, students attend masterclasses with world-class guest artists like Gilbert Kalish, Boris Berman, Richard Goode, Joseph Kalichstein, and Julian Martin. Piano students play a vital role in the School of Music, frequently collaborating with peers in voice, strings, and wind programs through chamber music, large ensembles, and opera productions.
