The Applied Developmental Psychology program bridges developmental psychology with practical applications, examining developmental issues within children's real-world social environments. Program graduates gain expertise to conduct research and work in child, family, and school well-being settings, especially in urban, low-income, and culturally diverse communities. The program offers three specialized tracks, allowing students to combine core foundational courses with tailored experiences aligned with their professional aspirations: The Early Development/Early Intervention track explores biological, genetic, and environmental influences on early childhood development, along with traditional and emerging intervention methods for at-risk infants and young children. The Socioemotional Development of Children track examines how individual, peer, and family dynamics shape children's emotional and social growth across various cultural settings. The Educational Contexts of Development track investigates how cognitive, social, and motivational factors influence children's learning within school, family, cultural, and neighborhood environments.
